Volcom

Current Projects

Below is a list of the projects that Volcom is currently involved in:

All our Futures is funded by the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund, and aims to impact on the GCSE results in Hull.  Volcom is involved in lots of different activities that work towards this aim, including revision camps and events, placing volunteers in schools, InSET training and providing Marvellous Spelling classes.  We have set up 'Study Bands', an initiative that promotes independent learning, as well as 'Maths Medals' to improve pupils' numeracy skills.  For more information contact Lois Hamilton.

The Common Treasury is a resource of equipment that voluntary and community groups in Hull can loan for free to use at events and courses.  It includes laptops, digital cameras, video cameras and projectors, as well as giant games, gazebos and chairs.  To see what there is, have a look at the Common Treasury catalogue, and to loan equipment contact Amiirah Elahee on 01482 382521.

Infomails are brief emails sent out by Volcom to inform individuals and groups in the voluntary and community sectors about relevant issues such as funding, government policy, national and local events, and learning opportunities.  The service is free, reaches over 200 groups in Hull and beyond and has been running successfully for five years.  For more information or to sign up, visit the Infomail page or contact Amiirah Elahee.

Marvellous Spelling is a successful way of teaching adults and children to spell.  Volcom has been using the method in Hull schools to aid literacy, and has had a great response with lots of successes!  We have a DVD pack that enables parents, teachers and others who are interested in learning about Marvellous Spelling, to hear from those who have had breakthroughs in their spelling ability, and to learn to use it themselves.  Click here for more information or contact us on 01482 382523.

The Learning Curve was an innovative pilot project which Volcom delivered in partnership with other organisations in Hull.  The project was about developing skills and knowledge for neighbourhood renewal.  If you would like to develop skills and knowledge about regeneration in your neighbourhood, contact Isabelle Tracy.

The Research Team has been involved in many of Volcom’s projects, carrying out evaluations and research around them.  Their main project was the Learners’ Forum (see the Data Observatory for details), but the team also does contract research work that is related to learning and/or regeneration. For more information contact Nicole Steele.
