Different technologies and their use in learning

New technologies are being developed and existing technologies are being improved all the time.  Over the past ten to fifteen years we have seen an explosion in the amount of technologies that we have in our lives- mobile phones, PC's, PDA's, broadband and wireless connections are widespread.

Such technologies are increasingly common in learning environments, and will become more so in the future.  This section looks firstly at research carried out in Hull to assess the potential for various new technologies within learning, and then at possibilities for the future.

Research in Hull involved speaking to over 100 residents of the city to ask them for their thoughts about new ways of delivering learning using developing technologies.  The areas covered related to learning via digital television, learning with mobile phones, and using games consoles for learning.

The second section looks at possibilities for using technology in learning in the future, looking at the developments that we might expect in the next three to five years.  This section draws especially on the work of Becta, the British Educational Communications and Technology Agency.
