Communities and Computers- an evaluation of Residents.net

The Residents.net project involved giving community groups in Hull a package including a free PC with software, technical support and training and a subsidised internet connection.  The computers were given to groups where there was no close and accessible IT provision, and they were able to locate it wherever was most convenient (e.g. a member’s house, or group office).  The project also had a website where groups could access relevant news, information and training opportunities, as well as being able to use it to communicate with other groups.

The aims of the project were to get people and groups using computers and the Internet, and see their skills improve; to create a network of groups who communicated and supported each other, and; to use the computer and associated services to support groups and the work they do.  The report discusses how this was achieved and what the outcomes were.
