Volcom's work with schools

The Learners’ Forum also paved the way for the work that Volcom is doing with schools.  Our findings emphasised the impact that pre-16 learning has on post-compulsory learning, and how important it is that individuals have positive and successful times at school if they are to meet their aspirations and continue learning and developing.  Many who have negative experiences at school are put off formal learning, and this then affects the rest of their lives.  These issues are discussed in

Too much to do in the real world:  A discussion of views on learning in Hull.

Given this fact, Volcom’s work has expanded to include work in schools.  Since 2004, the ‘All our Futures’ project has contributed to raising attainment through a range of diverse activities including ‘Magical Spelling’, looking at whole school cultures and systems and their impacts on attainment, putting volunteers into schools to support teachers, and being involved in revision camps.  The aim is to improve attainment in the city at a school level, and then to see the knock-on effect on post-16 learning.
