The Learners' Forum The Learners’ Forum is a project of Volcom that has aimed to contribute to the regeneration and education agendas in Hull in two main ways: Firstly, the project gathered information about learning from residents of the city. This could be about learning in its widest sense, for example, as well as talking to learners about their courses, the project also sought the views of those who were not involved in any kind of formal learning. The idea was to build up a store of information that could contribute to the process of providing the kinds of learning that residents wanted in the ways that they wanted. Ultimately, it was hoped that this would contribute to widening participation in the city. Click below for an outline of the type of research that The Learners' Forum have done. Outline of Learners' Forum Research The second activity of the project was to provide an information service about learning for voluntary and community groups in the city. This has primarily been achieved through the Infomail service, which sends out bite-sized bits of information relating to learning to over 300 groups. Click below for more about Volcom's information service. Aside from this, much of the value of the project has been through the synergy between the Learners’ Forum, and other projects run by Volcom. For example, the Residents.net project built on some of the findings of the project regarding IT use, and the school experiences of post-16 learners, and the influence of this on their current learning, has helped inform Volcom’s work with schools.
